PTA receives $20,000 grant for Lions Lair 2.0

Lionslair2.0The Lockwood PTA  of Lockwood, MT has received a generous $20,000 grant from The Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation to help fund a new playground for the Lockwood Community.

Lockwood PTA is a non-profit organization that, in addition to supporting their school, teachers, students and community, has been organizing efforts to raise funds for a new playground for Lockwood School and it’s surrounding community.  For just over twenty years, Lockwood boasted an iconic, massive wooden playground, well known to the Lockwood and Billings communities as “Lion’s Lair.”  Several years ago, it was deemed unsafe and had to be torn down due to safety concerns, leaving the school and community void a structure or place to gather.

The Dennis & Phyllis Washington grant will be used to help fund a new playground structure, “Lion’s Lair 2.0.”  The new structure will be made of material with longevity and low maintenance as key elements.  It also will provide ramping throughout a large portion of the structure in order to provide better access for persons with disabilities.  It will serve the children and families of Lockwood school and outreaching communities.  Lockwood PTA has raised nearly $63,000 towards it’s $230,000 goal towards the project, including the generous gift from the Foundation.

“Without the support of local and regional entities, such as The Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation, we would not be able to build a physical and imaginative play area in Lockwood to be used by this community and surrounding areas,” said Sicily Morris, Lockwood PTA Vice President and Lion’s Lair 2.0 Committee Member.  “We are so grateful for their support in making our vision a reality.”

The Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation is a private foundation whose mission is: “Investing in people to improve the quality of their lives.”  Placing a special emphasis on organizations primarily serving youth and those that exhibit strong community support, the Foundation and Washington Family’s personal contributions to charitable causes total more than $175 million.  For further information on the Foundation, please go to:  www.dpwfoundation.org
